Worth The Hype? Estee Lauder Heat Wave

Writer: Jess LoweJess Lowe

We have all been drooling over photos on Instagram of Estee Lauder Heat Wave for what feels like forever! But, is it worth the hype?

The products official name is Bronze Goddess Heat Wave Illuminating Powder Gelee. It is part of the SS17 Bronze Goddess Collection. It is actually a relaunch of Heat Wave circa 2013 with an updated look - which you can now find on eBay for upwards of £230! Back at it's original launch this was considered to be a most innovative product.

Heat Wave is limited edition and for £34 you receive 7g of product. The formula is described as a "super-luxurious, all-over bronzer that builds to a luminous pearl highlight". It really isn't your typical bronzer. Heat Wave is a bright, medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a metallic sheen. I would consider this to be much more typical of your usual highlighter.

It certainly is a buildable shade and easy to apply. It can be applied dry or wet. As expected, I found the 'glow' to be much more intense and deeper when applied wet. It is a soft and smooth formula. Although, it looks very glittery in some parts in the pan this is just an over spray and once applied this really doesn't translate. It layers well with blush, but can of course be worn alone. (Click on the pictures below to enlarge them).

The packaging has a stunning rose gold, spiral pattern to the lid with a contrasting teal magnetic clasp. Despite it's sturdy look, it is deceivingly made of plastic and quite light. (Click on the pictures below to enlarge them).

Summary:

Due to it's buildable formula Heat Wave fits both preferences; whether you like a lit from within, natural glow or an intense glow . The shade is too dark for my fair skin (NC15) particularly when applied wet - it looks dirty. This would be perfect for medium to deep skin tones. I feel the packaging is a little disappointing for the price point. Although looks beautiful, I think the plastic is too light and the price doesn't translate to a luxurious feeling. In my opinion the product and formula do live up to the hype. I am really glad I have this in my collection - now I just need to go and get a tan so I can actually wear it in public :).

Bronze Goddess Heat Wave Illuminating Powder Gelee is available now HERE exclusively until the 01 June. After this time, I would expect it to be available along with the other items in the Bronze Goddess collection at all Estee Lauder stockists and counters.

Until next time beauties
